Every woman should treat herself to maternity photos. It's such a wonderful way to remember what one's body can do, how a woman's body accomodates for a new life. What a beautiful tribute to womanhood. Maternity portraits can be a one-on-one session with Mom-to-be and belly, you might consider including older children, or the entire family, or just your partner if this is your first baby. Indoor and outdoor locations create vastly different, but wonderful effects. All black clothing or all white clothing is recommended (at least for mom).

I love to capture newborns in the first two weeks, when they are still all curled up and everything is so tiny. Au Natural or diaper shots are always on the agenda, as well as a cute outfit or two. Most photos are best in black and white. A warm room and large available window are all that are necessary. Newborn photos may be coupled with nursing photos or may also include other family members (first family photos).

Nursing Photos are highly specialized and intimate. Moms can wear as much or as little as they like, often these photos work well in the home with a large window for available light. But "on location" portraits are a lot of fun too. A large selection of nursing photos is available here. Nursing photos can be done at any age, however, the nursing relationship changes to rapidly that you may want to consider having photos taken at more than one stage. The session itself often goes quickly, either due to distracted older nursers or focused little nurslings who allow for a multitude of shots in a very short period of time.
